ObsidianImport

Since v3.8.7, Lionote can import an entire Obsidian vault. Bring your Markdown notes over, keep writing the way you're used to, and add handwriting, whiteboards, mind maps and encrypted sync across devices.

Why switch from Obsidian to Lionote

  • Keep writing Markdown: almost all Markdown syntax is supported, rendered as you type, and every syntax has a keyboard shortcut
  • Links and tags: links and backlinks, plus parent, child and sibling relationships; multi-level, color-coded and categorized tags with combined search
  • More than text: whiteboard handwriting, PDF annotation, mind maps, flowcharts and sequence diagrams in the same note
  • Still local-first: notes are stored locally as files and work offline
  • Encrypted sync, unlimited devices: PBKDF2 + random salt + AES encryption, with your encryption password stored only on your devices; notes and files sync across all your devices with no device limit
  • Every platform: Windows, macOS, iPhone, iPad, Android, HarmonyOS and Linux
  • Core features free forever: text, whiteboard, mind maps, flowcharts and other core features are free with no ads; cloud sync and advanced features are available on a paid plan

How to import

  1. Download and install Lionote (v3.8.7 or later)
  2. Go to Menu bar → Settings → Import, choose to import an entire Obsidian vault, and select your vault folder
  3. When the import finishes, view and edit your notes in Lionote

Note

Vault import currently supports only Obsidian's default attachment location (images, attachments, etc.). If you changed the attachment folder in Obsidian, check that setting before importing.

FAQ

  • What should I do before importing? Back up your Obsidian vault folder first. For backing up Lionote data, see Backup and Restore.
  • Can I use it for free? Yes. Core features are free forever; upgrade to a paid plan when you need cloud sync across devices.
  • Is my data secure? See Privacy and Security.
